Hinatuan’s Enchanted River: Travel Guide

Hiding in the rocky mountains of Surigao Del Sur is another beautiful destination one must experience. The Enchanted River, located in the peaceful town of Hinatuan. Swim in the amazingly clear, sapphire waters where many locals believe that this natural wonder were once or still is inhabited by spirits and ferries protecting its beauty.

The rising fame of Enchanted River has attracted a lot of tourists that led to its temporary closure early this year. This was mandated by the local government of Hinatuan in an effort to prevent future damages. Since its last reopening, the province has implemented rules in the area that are strictly to be followed.

How To Get There

From Brgy Bislig City, take a van or bus bound for Butuan and ask to drop you off at Barobo terminal. Fare is Php 60-70.

From Barobo Terminal, take another van going to Hinatuan or Mangagoy and ask to drop you off at the Enchanted River site. Fare is Php 50-60.

From drop off site, you will be greeted by habal-habal drivers who will offer to take you to the river and back for standard fee of Php 300 good two people.

TIPS/REMINDERS

You’re not allowed to swim at the blue lagoon anymore to protect and preserve it’s beauty. However, there’s still an area where you can swim around and if you’re travelling solo make sure to bring a waterproof bag for your valueables. Their lockers do not have padlocks and you wouldn’t want to leave your stuff unattended. Enchanted river is best visited early in the morning and late in the afternoon so you can witness the locals do their daily fish feeding ritual – a one of a kind experience!

  • Habal-habal rent: Php 300 (good for two)
